3Doodler Pen Review

3Doodler Pen Review

3Doolder pen has this privilege to be called World’s first 3D printing pen and when it hit the market, it was a huge and instant success. It reached its initial funding goals within hours and it continued the remarkable sales until the $2.4 million mark was hit before the campaign was finished. Now the same company is back after almost two years with an advanced, more tech-savvy and sleeker pen that has a totally new design and it is easier to use. 3D printing has been made easier than ever with the arrival of pens like 3Doodler 2.0.

Features and Specifications

There are some major improvements and changes in the latest model of 3Doodler as compared to its predecessor. Not only it is incredibly smaller in size but it also features a new and improved nozzle design in addition to an enhanced and improved heating algorithm. There is an option to set the speed to variable so one can adjust to their writing style. Temperature control is not a problem as you can set it precisely to take full control on your 3D printing. In addition to this, there is a new feed system in 3Doodler 2.0 that makes the extrusion much more consistent and reliable. All these features, improvements and more make the 3Doodler 2.0 a better than ever 3D printer pen.

Setup and Configuration

It is incredibly simple and easy to start with the 3Doodler 2.0 because it is basically a freehand 3D printer that its simplicity will blow you away. All you have to do is plug it into a power source and it is your choice to shove in a stick of either PLA or ABS plastic. One important step in setup is to flip the switch to high and wait for the indicator light to inform you that the nozzle is hot enough so that you can start extruding. After that, just keep holding the “squirt” button and the molten plastic will start coming out so you can draw anything you would like.

It only takes a minute or two to complete the setup and ready to start 3D printing. It lets the users create strange new works of art that are easy to start but hard to master. They couldn’t have made it simpler than this so that anyone can set it up on their own and start printing right away.

Quality and Design

The 3Doodler 2.0 has just knocked the socks off 1.0 in a lot of ways and the build quality and overall design are the most significant options of these. There is a sleek new aluminum enclosure and not to mention the small and compact size that is 1/4th of the version 1.0. It is easy to hold the 3Doodler 2.0 in your hand and start printing right away. One of the most notable upgrades and improvements is the variable speed button that gives the user full freedom while printing. Moreover, the temperature control feature adds more detail to the printing and the end-result is remarkable. Last but not the least, “continuous feed” has fixed a problem that some users faced they weren’t able to draw bigger objects as they had to strain their hand during the process. It is now possible to do this task with ease and you can activate the “continuous feed” by double clicking the extrude button.

Print Quality

3Doodler 2.0 has simply taken the 3D printing pens to a whole new level and has set a new standard for the competitors. It is designed to be used freehand and obviously, this means that it is not as accurate as the 3D printer. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not a useful tool but you can master it with time and with a bit of dedication and practice. The best thing about 3Doodler 2.0 is that the users need no special or technical knowledge in order to start using it. Anyone with interest and dedication of 3D printing can pick up the 3D printer pen and start printing. There is absolutely no requirement to download software or STL files to load on printer so the technical barriers between your imaginations and the 3D printing are removed.

The only downside about 3Doodler 2.0 is the freehand feature which will be a bit of problem in the beginning but it is directly related to your drawing skills. Just like 2D sketching, it takes a bit of patience and practice and you will be making really cool stuff in no time. Since it never clogs or jam, its maintenance requires no efforts and there is no repairing or upgrading cost.

So if you’re looking for a real-time 3D printer, 3Doodler 2.0 is not really the best option as it is more of a fun artistic tool. But if you want a great tool to turn your imaginations into real 3D objects, 3Doodler 2.0 is definitely an option worth considering.
